Greatest thing to melt my heart: Baby elephants
This week, I read that baby elephants who lose their families are very hard to care for and often die of a broken heart. Staff at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya have devised a care system which involves sleeping, eating and being with the young elephants around the clock.
This gives them a much greater chance of survival. The caregivers find it hard not to get attached to the baby elephants, who are constantly craving attention. I wish I could show you the photograph of a baby elephant hugging his caregiver that accompanied the article.
Greatest discovery: Wheatgrass juice
It sounds like it would taste like mulch, but try an ounce of this first thing in the morning and feel the magic potion work its way through your veins.
Greatest name: Om
A young man named Om, canvassing for Greenpeace, stopped me on my way through Capital Hill by pointing to the ground and asking, “Is that yours?” I looked around. ”Is that yours?” he asked again.
“What?” I asked, looking around some more.
“The earth”, he said, “is it yours?”
Greatest walk: The C & O Canal
It starts in Georgetown, ends in Maryland. Just pick a spot and start walking.
Have a great weekend!
